Safeguarding
At Therasteps Care, safeguarding is at the heart of everything we do. We are committed to ensuring the physical, emotional, and psychological safety of every child in our care. Our safeguarding approach equips staff with the knowledge and skills to identify and respond to signs of abuse while working collaboratively with the child and other professionals. By listening to and involving the young person in their care plan, we create a supportive environment that promotes their well-being, reduces risky behaviours, and ensures their safety.
At Therasteps Care, we recognise that safeguarding is a fundamental priority in all our homes. It encompasses the protection of children from harm, abuse, and neglect while promoting their overall well-being. Our safeguarding approach is designed to ensure the physical, emotional, and psychological safety of every child in our care.
We achieve this by equipping our staff with the necessary skills and knowledge to recognise, respond to, and manage signs of abuse. Staff are also trained to understand the profound impact abuse can have on an individual’s development and emotional health. We prioritize collaboration with all parties involved in a young person’s care, including the young person themselves. This approach ensures that relevant information is shared with all professionals involved, while also engaging the child to help them understand the risks associated with certain behaviours. By incorporating the child’s views, wishes, and feelings into our care plans, we aim to reduce risky behaviours, such as going missing.
Our safeguarding policies, outlined below, further demonstrate our commitment to protecting the young people in our care:
- Safeguarding Policy
- Complaints Raised by a Child or on Their Behalf
- Allegations Against Staff
- Bullying Policy
- Exploitation Policy
- Whistleblowing Policy
Missing From Care
Supporting children who go missing from our homes is a crucial aspect of safeguarding and care. At Therasteps Care, we understand that when a child goes missing, it often signals deeper emotional, behavioural, or environmental challenges. Our approach focuses on addressing the underlying causes, working collaboratively with the child and relevant professionals to reduce the risk of recurrence.
We implement personalised safety plans, ensuring that each child is supported through early intervention, emotional support, and consistent communication. By listening to the child’s perspective, educating them on the risks involved, and fostering a trusting environment, we aim to create a sense of security that minimizes the urge to run away. When incidents do occur, we respond swiftly and sensitively, prioritising the child’s welfare and coordinating with authorities to ensure their safe return.
